Our Enrichment Center

Holy Name Catholic Parish was founded in 1907 in downtown Steamboat Springs.  Our parish family has grown into three churches over the years, the last of which was dedicated in 2014.  Despite the challenges of secularism and the recent pandemic, the Lord is reviving us and clarifying our mission.

Our mission is “To Make Dynamic Disciples of Christ and Cultivate a Eucharistic Community whose Love flows from our mountain valley to the world.”

Like our Burning Bush Tabernacle, the Lord calls us together around the Eucharist to be living flames, sharing His love with the world.

Currently, the church is big enough to accommodate those who gather as a Eucharistic community. But to pursue our mission of making disciples, we need more facilities in addition to our worship space.  Fortunately, we planned for this when we built our new church, placing a full basement beneath it with the same footprint of 9200 sq. feet.

Now it’s time to finish what we started, so that we can continue to build our faith community from the foundation.

This is the plan the Lord has placed upon our hearts.

Descending the main stairwell to the lower level we arrive in the lobby which connects the two church halls with central doors.

Entering the large new hall there is a nursery for child care during Mass and other activities.

Six smaller rooms are located around the perimeter which can be used for small group meetings; faith formation for children, youth and adults; prayer groups; retreats and music rehearsals. These rooms can also be used for meetings of the parish staff, the Pastoral and Finance Councils, and even for groups from outside the parish.

When needed, the walls of these rooms can retract, opening the space for larger events for children and youth. About 180 people could gather here for guest speakers, performers and movie nights. This space could also host large parish meals, and receptions after Baptism, Confirmation, First Communion, Funerals and Weddings.

This dining area could accommodate 150 people, all served from our new kitchen. These spaces could also be available for rent, providing a source of income for our parish.

With all of these people milling about, we will, of course, need new restrooms which would be accessible from the lobby.

The current parish hall will be remodeled to accomodate one or two rooms for parish ministries, Community Dinners or Supper Clubs.

Access to the current kitchen would be opened up to provide a more residential feel.

The size of the  kitchen would be reduced enough to provide a few bathrooms with showers. Why? To provide hospitality to the various groups of youth or young adults who regularly come to ski Steamboat, or pass through on bike trips.

The parish committee that has worked on these plans with Vertical Arts Archetecture...

… is very pleased with the plans, and we hope you agree that this is a wise use of our facilities.

Take a Moment to IMAGINE

Holy Name’s Enrichment Center...

Imagine a young couple entrusting their child to a caregiver at Holy Name’s Nursery so they can attend an event at the church to help them grow in their faith…

Imagine teenagers choosing to attend a youth event at Holy Name (instead of at the church across town) because they can gather with our awesome youth ministers in an awesome youth-friendly facility…

Imagine a place where children and adults can grow as dynamic disciples of Christ, and learn how to share their Catholic faith with the world…

Imagine an evening when seven small groups meet to share their spiritual journeys, privately yet under one roof, with the help of the latest technology…

Imagine retreats sponsored by Holy Name for anyone seeking spiritual renewal in our valley, our church and our attractive meeting rooms…

Imagine hundreds of grieving people receiving the gift of hospitality at a funeral reception in a hall that is roomy and pleasant, with good air circulation…

Imagine a couple choosing to be married at Holy Name because of the cheaper option of having their wedding reception in the hall below…

Imagine a church that is quiet before Mass because the music ministers are rehearsing in their music room below…

Imagine a parish breakfast, a volunteer appreciation dinner, or St. Patrick’s Day dinner to which everyone is invited and there is room for all – with good air circulation…

Imagine hosting a small group supper with comfortable kitchen and dining facilities in our convenient downtown location…

Imagine a venue available for use by the Steamboat community for charities, guest speakers, conferences, or performers…

Imagine two simultaneous Christmas Eve Masses, one upstairs and one downstairs, so there’s enough room for anyone to attend Christmas Eve Mass and then go to dinner…

All this is possible, and things beyond our imagining, as the Holy Spirit is igniting the hearts of our parish.

Construction on our new Enrichment Center is scheduled for Summer 2022 – Summer 2023.

Now is the time to go for it!

The pandemic has come to an end, and people are coming back to our beautiful church. But the challenges of our secular culture require us to sink our roots down deeper, beneath the Church to the bedrock of our Faith.

We need better facilities to make dynamic disciples of our children, youth and adults.

We need attractive places, in addition to our church, to gather in small groups, to kindle the fire of our faith in more personal ways.

Jesus is calling us to make disciples, to build our Eucharistic community, and to share His love with the world.  And all of us have a role to play in His saving mission.

God is the architect.  He has the plan.  And we are the living stones He is using to build up His kingdom.

I ask you, please, to join us as we realize God’s plan.

Share what you can to help us build this Enrichment Center.

Let us come together as living flames of God’s love, trusting that, as we share our fire, it will not be consumed.

Our generous gift of self will continue to burn, like the Burning Bush Tabernacle, attracting people to our Euchristic Lord.
